THE TOC (UPDATED 8/30)

4:00pm ET (1:00pm PT)

• Some people still work M-F
• Sundays are for the NFL
• We want a time and day amicable for both Early and Late Day PLayas

The TOC will no longer be anyone gets in. You MUST qualify.

After all it's a Tournament of CHAMPIONS!

RULES

Rules are  ~~ 8-EIGHT ~~ Hands Regular Spades. Anything bid allowed including Nil and Blind Nil!

All other Game PLayas rules also apply.

QUALIFYING

Weeks run from and to Sundays at MIDNIGHT.
Some Weeks may have days from the previous Month in them.
The TOC Month is based on Sundays Month.
Scores are for the FULL Week ending Sunday Midnight to be consistent. 

SUBS

~~~ In the case of qualifiers not attending ~~~

SUBS will be selected from attendees not currently in the TOC

SUBS will be selected in order based on Monthly Points for the TOC's Month.

IF a SUB is selected to replace a Qualifier, the Qualifier is not eligible to regain that seat. 

BE ON TIME!

After the first round, IF there are no alternates available AND if a team loses, the top point earner out of the PLayas knocked out are the first to qualify for being a SUB.

If the full 4 teams cannot be made, byes are given out. The Byes are given to the team with the most combined earned points first.

PLaya Points Explained

At some point someone who was trusted to TD and work with us was given TOO much trust and had access to some administrator areas.

During that time when they could access things, they would mess up the schedule, Change other things, and maybe even mess with players and their points. But the WORST thing they did was mess with the overall POINTS SYSTEM.

Sorry for that, and actions have been taken to protect administrative functions and restore things back to the way they were for 20+ years, and the way they were suppose to be.

The ORIGINAL point system had this set-up, and it is back to that now;

300 points - For each Winner
100 points - For each Runner-up
10 points - per player overall within that tournament.

The goal was to reward points, based on an overall average of the wins, losses and people played.

Here's an Example:

1 win= 300 with 8 people = 380 points

Now let's say someone comes in as a runner-up a number of times.

They get 100 points, and with 8 people = 180.

Let's say they are runner-up again. 180 + 180 = 360.

STILL not enough to take over 1st place 380 > 360.

Let's say they are runner up a thrid time. 180 + 180 + 180 = 540.

SO, they have played THREE tournaments, 24 people and come in 2nd 3 times.

Their points now put them in first place. 540 > 380

Now, if the one who WON , Wins again, THEY go back on top 760 > 540.

See what I am getting at?

I took a long time, using spreadsheets and calculators and fake scenarios to come up with something fair. Rewarding everything from WINS, RUNNER-UPS, How many people played AND How many Tournaments were played, which will help keep the league alive.

I think this is a VERY fair point system.

1. It doesn't put WINNERS out of reach, so people will continue to play throughout the month.
2. The bigger the turn out, the more players are actually beaten, so a slightly bigger reward.


THE BAD NEWS!!!!


The MODIFIED numbers, which were only caught on 6/7/2026 has major problems as far as I am concerned.

It was set to:

1000 points - Winner
250 points - Runner-up
10 points - per player within that tournament.

With just TWO wins, it would mean someone would need over 7 runner-ups to challenge ONE matches win. THAT could be discouraging from the start of the month. I don't feel it's fair at all. I built this system to stay fun and competitive, not to have people run the scores up early with no chance of others catching them.


1. With 1000 point wins, especially early in a week, or month, it would make it almost impossible to catch up, considering the point spread and limited tournaments we run.

2. IF people can't catch up and are following the points, they may decide it's not worth trying. Maybe they will come back in a month, maybe not.

3.The bigger values minimize the value of how many people played. It becomes a non-factor really, and I think it has value when you win a 16 player tourney vs a 4 player one.

Sorry if you disagree. BUT this is how it has been for 20 years until some dim-wit decided to mess with the system. Money, but no brains from what I hear. They are now banned and on a short leash at SHG as well.

It IS possible the system could be tweaked again, if we find better values, but I think the way it is right now (back to original) does the following:

1. Rewards the winners fairly
2. Rewards runner-ups fairly, for making finals as well. plus keeps the Winners within striking distance.
3. Giving rewards based on players in the t. The more players, the bigger the overall value.

BTW, Points MAY be worth something some day soon.

DO NOT CHEAT to get any. If you cheat, you are ALREADY A LOSER! Karma will take care of you. But why cheat? Why not see how good you are, and you will learn much more, from mistakes and actually get better.
